Exactly. They hate freedom because it doesn’t allow them to control, they hate justice because they hate consequences for their actions, and they hate the Constitution because it doesn’t allow them to careen wildly off the course of the founding fathers (anti-monarchy).
Why have Republicans and the conservative Supreme Court decided that the Constitution’s most fundamental protections are now somehow superfluous?
The First Amendment — freedom of speech and expression — is defended only when politically convenient.
The Fourth Amendment’s protection against government intrusion is steadily weakened as privacy rights erode.
The Fifth Amendment’s guarantee of due process, the bedrock of American justice, is increasingly treated as an obstacle rather than a principle.
Republicans and the conservative Supreme Court appear willing to sideline these amendments, not because the Constitution has changed, but because political fear has.
They have chosen loyalty and power over principle — too afraid to stand up to one man rather than uphold the oath they swore to the American people.
The Constitution was designed to restrain power, not surrender to it.
When those entrusted to defend it declare its protections expendable, they are not interpreting the Constitution — they are abandoning it.
Americans must ask: if our leaders treat the First, Fourth, and Fifth Amendments as optional, what rights disappear next?
It is time for the people to stand up and be counted !!!
This is why we should abolish the right-wing fascist altogether! In MY opinion being conservative tends to turn fascistic. It always does. It's an oppressive death cult. We need to be a progressive country, with giving little power to the rich. We need to get rid of Citizens United, lobbying, especially from Israel 🇮🇱. To force those we vote into office to work for US not the corporations. And hold the rich accountable for every illegal activity and misdeeds they do to their workers. Sadly we ( the people alive in this comment section even the writer) won't be alive to see such thing. It'll probably take 100 years for this country ( we would hope) to see real change.
I am keeping this in my email. I am memorizing, in an abbreviated form what I consider the big four: 1, 2, 4, 14. Freedom of speech, right to bears arms, protection against illegal search and seizure, right to due process. Okay one more, winging it: 5 right to remain silent, something, something.
I always wondered about the ones starting with "Congress shall make no law", because it only mentions one part of the government and law, not individual actions of individual office holders like president or judge.
This is an excellent and concise essay summarizing many of this regime’s flagrant and contemptuous violations of our Constitution and several important statutes enacted to prevent executive overreach. Thank you, Christopher, for your diligent efforts.
Nothing says "I hate democracy" quite as loudly as storming the capital building in an attempt to prevent the votes from being ratified. Republicans are merely amused at Trump's boldness in that action. We don't use the word Treason much. Instead, we call people terrorists. At one point, senators were calling librarians terrorists because they wouldn't hand over the records of who checked out which books. Stupidity will find a way.
I have a question in as much as the constitution says that all rights not delegated to the federal government are reserved to the states.
And the federal government does not have the ability to dictate policy as regards marriage, gun ownership, abortion it also has no authority over voting, And in fact it took four amendments to affect voting the 15th, 17th, 19th and 26th.
Therefore Congress can not pass a law, like the Save act, it will require an amendment, andTrump certainly can't do it by executive order.
Correct me if I am wrong.
If I am right, then why has not the media, even the so called liberal media or even such as we are on the netz and substack called the Republicans and Trump out on this fraud.
By remaining silent we are in effect legitimizing this unconstitutional power grab.
The SAVE act is not potentially unconstitutional, it is unconstitutional.
I can answer my own question, mentally the population and the sovereign states have over time ceded authority, not in fact, but mentally to the federal government, to the point where they have forgotten that they are sovereign and the Federal government is not the supreme ruler.
And have denigrated themselves to being servants, so when he president says jump, they jump. Same with SCOTUS. Compliance with SCOTUS is voluntary.
Andrew Johnson was correct, when he said, Justice Marshall has ruled now let him enforce the ruling.
We decided for our own benefit to comply with the executive and SCOTUS for our own benefit, it kept the system working and we all benefited. But compliance became in our mind mandatory and without discussion.
We have a national Stockholm Syndrome.
Compliance is no longer beneficial, it is the oposite, hazardous and it is time to stop.
Seditious Conspiracy!! And he tried to bring the very thing he and his regime have done against our past military officials! Everything he blames someone else for is what they’ve done.
People should have the power to impeach if necessary. We need amendments when this is over or some more rules: term limits, abolish electoral college, a felon can not run for office, lies disqualify a candidate, news must be apolitical and state facts, etc.
Appreciate this assemblage of all that has happened linked to specifics. I also appreciate the links and references connecting to useful tools.
Regards 18 U.S.C. § 2384 and seditious conspiracy, can we not take action against the Heritage Foundation for this? what action would succeed? Would toppling the Heritage Foundation be a means to topple others? Guess I wondering if it time for an indirect method of defending ourselves.
Exactly. They hate freedom because it doesn’t allow them to control, they hate justice because they hate consequences for their actions, and they hate the Constitution because it doesn’t allow them to careen wildly off the course of the founding fathers (anti-monarchy).
It also allows them the ability to make money accept gifts through illegal and underhanded ways

What would have shocked us five years ago now gets rationalized.
What gets normalized gets repeated.
And what gets repeated becomes the new baseline.

14 : due process to everyone on American soil. 5 general habeus, etc.
Well said. Can't be said often enough.
Thank you for calling out originalism. It never should have been accepted in the first place.
