The people of New Jersey, call upon you — with the full weight of your office and the authority vested in you by the Constitution of the State of New Jersey — to immediately declare a State of Emergency in response to the unprecedented threats posed by the federal government to our state's sovereignty, institutions, and residents.
The federal government has made clear its willingness to weaponize federal authority against the citizens, communities, and elected representatives of New Jersey.
These are not abstract threats.
They represent a direct assault on the rights and protections that New Jerseyans depend upon.
Furthermore, crimes have been committed within the borders of our state that the federal government has either refused to investigate, actively ignored, or deliberately declined to prosecute.
This abdication of federal duty leaves our residents without justice and without recourse.
The State of New Jersey cannot and must not allow this vacuum of accountability to stand.
We therefore demand you take the following immediate actions:
1. DECLARE A STATE OF EMERGENCY — formally recognizing the threat to New Jersey's legal, civic, and institutional integrity posed by current federal actions and directives.
2. DIRECT THE ATTORNEY GENERAL to open full, independent state-level investigations into all crimes committed within New Jersey that the federal government has failed to prosecute — regardless of the political sensitivity of those crimes or the individuals involved.
3. MOBILIZE STATE RESOURCES — law enforcement, legal counsel, and legislative authority — to defend New Jersey residents from any unlawful federal interference, overreach, or coercion.
4. COMMUNICATE PUBLICLY AND TRANSPARENTLY with the people of New Jersey about the specific threats we face and the steps being taken to protect us.
Governor Sherrill, you were elected to protect this state.
The moment to act is now.
History will not look kindly on silence in the face of threats to democracy, justice, and the rule of law. New Jersey is watching.
You're welcome! The more we fight together the stronger we become. Let's all get as many people as they can to stand together with us, it's imperative for us "WE THE PEOPLE" to take actions now if we ever want to regain our free, democratic way of life.
I believe I've seen Mike say on previous posts that he specifically shares these so others can use them too (if I'm wrong then Mike be mad at me but I don't think I am)

I'm Deb Capelli lifelong NJ resident. I would really love if you could send me those draft letters. The one on the state of emergency to Mikie Sherrill and if there's another one to our state's AG please I beg you if you could send me that draft as well I am forever spending days and nights trying to properly word letters to every congressional representative I possibly can and I don't think it's making a difference but your words are much more professionally stated. I hope you will grant me permission to use those letter drafts with my signature?

WAKEUP AMERICA - OUR REPUBLIC IS DOOMED UNLESS A NEW NATIONAL INDEPENDENT 3RD POLITICAL PARTY IS ESTABLISHED - ASAP --- FYI --- WRITING CONGRESS OR GOVERNORS IS ANALOGOUS TO PISSING IN THE WIND!!! SAD BUT TRUE!!!
We need to have national ranked choice voting and/or the national popular vote before a third party will be viable on the national stage. Any time you encourage third-party voting in a winner take all system, like we have in the U.S., you are defeating the side that you are most closely aligned with. I am not saying that you shouldn't critique the Democratic Party, or that you shouldn't support progressive candidates who will primary establishment candidates, but it’s important to understand that our current system always devolves into two parties — it's math, pure and simple. Highly recommend watching CGP Grey's animated series on voting systsems called Politics In The Animal Kingdom. The Working Families Party is an example of a creative way to run progressive candidates within the 2-party system that sends a message to Democrats without risking giving the election to Republicans. Mamdani ran as a WFP candidate— but also, NYC has ranked choice voting, which was key to his win. https://www.cgpgrey.com/politics-in-the-animal-kingdom
Note to Gov.s Newsom, Pritzker, Moore, Shapiro, Beshear, and any other Gov.s considering running for President:
The Governor who steps up and declares this State of Emergency will be the Democratic Nominee in 2028.
Democrats are looking for someone to actually lead us against Trump and MAGA. Gov. Newsom shot to the head of the pack by posting funny memes that annoyed Trump and MAGA. But launching these investigations is real action that will be applauded and rewarded -- and let you dominate the headlines from now until the Convention.
A bit more on how the one who steps up to be a Leader (rather than trying to be candidate) will be our next President:
Instead of running for President, they should get their AGs to sue the government for the return to their citizens of all the taxes used for illegal activities of ICE, DOGE and in the military actions against Venezuela and Iran. They can settle for an amicable divorce dividing all assets by state population. Der Fuhrer can declare himself King of MAGALAND. What a deal!
The question becomes, will NY Governor Kathy Hochul stand up to JP Morgan or any of the other banks who are involved?
I’ve learned that this is not just a scandal of sexual perversion; it is a scandal of sexual perversion being used as leverage for financial extortion on a grand scale.
These banks did nothing while Epstein was alive because it was very profitable for them to take the money that he extorted from the visitors to the rooms where his cameras recorded them with the victims.
Trump’s actions on crypto indicate an institutionalized money laundering scandal. So does his appointment of Wibur Ross, former head of The Bank of Cyprus, in his first term.
I saw that an official from Azerbaijan and Iran’s Red Guard were killed. Is Trump covering up his project in Azerbaijan for which he used Red Guard money?
The public’s distaste for the perversions that Epstein peddled are keeping the focus concentrated. But behind it is a banking system that does not see morality; it does not care about human suffering, which is why it can launder money for drug cartels as well as the biggest pimp in history.
Also needing to be rescued are those investigators who have spent their lives fighting criminality only to have the Chief Executive of the United States undermine everything they’ve done while opening the door to complicit wolves. They are fighting a battle rigged against them from the people at the very top of the chain.
How will the back of these financial giants be broken? Will their leaders - including their boards of directors - face punishment?
If crimes occurred, they should be prosecuted - financiers or politicians alike. But accountability comes through evidence and enforceable law, not outrage.
The real question is whether our investigative systems still function, and if they don’t, how we restore them without abandoning the rule of law.
Same concern here, Hochul and the fed NY Dems seem like they are part of the problem in NY. Their policies are so right leaning in practice they lose the signature fights that would benefit working families and then taxes and cost of living are high, so they have waning support here and keep gerrymandering against their own party. They would rather make a business deal with a foreign Corp to sell off preservation land and farms than implement signature policies like Mamdani is doing in short order with zero fuss. I don't have faith that Hochul or the Dems here have our back in the fight. James does clearly but she needs the power of the governor to push in this direction. They are still arguing about tax vs spend as if there's no other method to deal with the GOP, while Healy put the millionaire tax up and has already reaped the rewards for state coffers and public good programs. Your solutions are elegant and entirely do-able and I question why these things haven't already happened in the states we are talking about? I think it's the pedo ring - saw report about deep involvement and facilitation of Ohio ring by federal agents and FBI informants, of which apparently Epstein was also? Yes facilitation. My guess is that the silence will continue because there are rings in every state and the people running the states - some are in the web of collusion. The idea that Dems have a conscience when they have looked the other way so far is what keeps me from seeing the path forward via Dems. Not sure how to break the silence here - suggestions please. Like who are the top Dems donors in Albany and are they involved or implicated?
I wrote to my governor Healy and pleaded with her to please read your post from today. I think this is the best idea I have heard yet and is something we can do now instead of waiting until November and hoping Trump hasn't completed his shut down of democracy by then. Thank you!
What Timothy Snyder characterizes as the “stupefyingly overt corruption of the Trump administration” has clearly overwhelmed national Democratic “leadership”, wedded as they are to the non-confrontational “pragmatism” of their consultants and the support of similarly inclined major donors. I could send this to the governor of my state, Florida, but I suspect Ron DeSantis would be unmoved (!). So I’ve asked my friends on Facebook to read & share. Thank you, sir, for offering powerful (and genuinely pragmatic) solutions and strategies.
The Zorro Ranch, once owned by Epstein and now owned by a big right wing donor is in New Mexico. Would the governor of New Mexico have to declare a state of emergency in order to investigate the crimes Epstein committed in New Mexico?
The NM governor and both houses of the state legislature unanimously voted for a state investigation of Epstein ties to the state and -- I believe -- physical search of the area for buried bodies. Now, will they follow through and will it be a serious investigation? Having once been a journalist in Albuquerque I am skeptical, but hopeful.
I feel like you're the only one I've come across that actually explains what action each citizen can take and why it's effective and important. Thank you!
Enlightening ! And encouraging, but the governors seem to be inert and mor interested (Newson, Hochul) in their own survival in politics. Sadly they are not as many superb mayors and attorneys generals women and men who are an example.
We need courage, we need action we need audacity and endurance, let’s hope that one of them leads the pack. One made the difference in most emergencies in the past.
They are OUR governors - if they are being INERT, then those who elected them need to get off their asses and express themselves loudly and frequently to THOSE GOVERNORS. This time calls for high volume, high frequency, and sustained ACTION.
Governor, we are in a state of emergency. Please declare it as such. The threats to our national security, our elections, the economic stability of our state, the safety of our residents, all of it is sufficient justification for an official state of emergency requiring the kind of immediate, broad authority that only an emergency declaration provides. We need Minnesota state to aggressively investigate and criminally prosecute the crimes in the Epstein files, and refer out to other states when the evidence intersects with their criminal codes. This is the web connecting every crisis we’re facing, and pulling on it is how we restore democracy and protect the people of Minnesota state.
Thank you, Christopher! Again! Working on the rewording of Mike's letter and will send it to our fearless Governor Janet Mills. (At least her ads say she's fearless. Let's see.)
Again, thank you very much for inspiring so many of us!
Chris. I am so inspired by your work, and relieved to have an action plan. I am sharing this post and your book throughout coastal Maine. Keep it up man!
You are the poster boy for true patriotism. Using your knowledge and passion for this democracy you are transcending the space we find ourselves in. Thank you. Be safe.

The people demand action.
Respectfully but urgently,
Thank you as always for your action, Mike 🌲🌲🌲
Excellent. I have stolen your letter and added the following phrase up top:
“(If President Trump can declare an emergency because of our trade imbalance, certainly you can, for the reasons stated below.)”
Thanks for this! Sending to my gov et al.
Thanks for acting, Deb 🌲 🌲 🌲
Everyone who voted for her should be sending it
You're welcome! The more we fight together the stronger we become. Let's all get as many people as they can to stand together with us, it's imperative for us "WE THE PEOPLE" to take actions now if we ever want to regain our free, democratic way of life.
Thank you. I hope you don't mind if I use this template
I believe I've seen Mike say on previous posts that he specifically shares these so others can use them too (if I'm wrong then Mike be mad at me but I don't think I am)
Same. May we?
Holy cr*p! I love that. "Respectfully but urgently," indeed.
I voted for her and will send it to her. Is email good enough or should I send a typed out paper letter via usps mail?
Both is great, otherwise either is fine 🌲 🌲 🌲
I ask permission to copy and send also, altering language for my state
I believe I've seen Mike say on previous posts that he specifically shares these so others can use them too (if I'm wrong then Mike be mad at me but I don't think I am)
No problem I don’t mind sharing
This is great, Mike. Let us know if your person responds? Mine hasn't.
Just sent to Gavin Newsom.
Does he ever respond to you? He never has to me.
Thank you Mike. Letter written to Governor Hochul. N.Y.
Me, too. I see a few other people also contacted the governor.
Mike, I copied your letter to utilize and posted it to my page, giving proper attribution so that we all can use it. Thank you so much!
Hi Mike,

Deb, you can copy and paste Mike's great letter to his Governor, and paste it to a word doc or to an email.
Sure sorry it took so long

A third party would be great unfortunately we have tried that on more than one occasion but to no avail - my question is who would be the candidate?
A better strategy might be to just run for something. https://cmarmitage.substack.com/p/does-an-authoritarian-takeover-of/comment/221424784?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android&r=1fzl8
It is support for progressives who want to, well, run for something.

Maybe an ongoing nagging & pestering campaign would help?
Always pester politicians ... and never trust them.

Is that too much to ask ?? Just one
They are OUR governors - if they are being INERT, then those who elected them need to get off their asses and express themselves loudly and frequently to THOSE GOVERNORS. This time calls for high volume, high frequency, and sustained ACTION.
There are a handful of democratic governors who might have the gumption to do this:
Minnesota – Should be obvious & automatic.
Illinois - He's already shown some symbolic grit.
Michigan - A bunch of kick-ass ladies for sure.
Maryland - He could do it smiling.
New Mexico - As was said earlier: That ranch is a natural wedge.
Virginia - New Gov. responded perfectly to State of the Union; maybe here too.
I'm also sure that I missed some. Help appreciated.
Amen!!!
Thank you Chris.
