Chris, love it you cite your sources! I know it’s a big ask— but if you have a staff member, that could send this article to all Democratic Governors? It’s valuable information, they could act on- in advance of what may be the worst to come. Thank you.

Christopher Armitage's avatar

You're absolutely right, we are currently looking into ways to refine this information pipeline. Ultimately, if we want these things to happen then it also takes members of the public, constituents, and donors making their demands clear. Public support is more influential than any idea alone. The fact is, I don't think any politician will do the right thing unless they know it will have a substantial impact on their ability to fundraise and receive votes. I'm just one person, we need a lot of people who are very loud and very persistent! I'd recommend this article about how to more effectively nudge politicians over time. Thanks for fighting the good fight! https://open.substack.com/pub/cmarmitage/p/5-phone-calls-can-stop-american-fascism?r=64gnd1&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

You're absolutely right Christopher---politicians will not stick their neck out unless they know they have public support--especially from donors and constitutents. I am emailing my state Rep and Senator now to let them know that I support state action to curtail federal overreach. I urge others to do the same.

All Governors need to get in gear !! Get active now, so you don't have to be reactive later@

I read on Substack, the Dem Governors have a weekly call/ or zoom- to be ready in advance, with law suits, and such. Hope it’s true. Your articles- great agenda items.

Elise Green's avatar

I read the same thing on substack. Guess whose substack? Chris Armitage! It was the first piece I ever read that he wrote. I was hooked on Chris after reading that first substack and I've saved everyone of them after that. He's the best. Before reading his substack, I had no idea that all the Dem. Governors and AGs are preparing. Also, we the people must prepare. We just had a national blackout from Sept. 16-20. I don't know how effective it was because I don't think too many people outside of some hard core activists were even were aware of it. There's supposed to be another one starting on Black Friday for five days. Every Tuesday is Not Normal Tuesday--the same as a blackout but just for one day a week instead of 5 days in a row. It's a little easier of an ask. We the people have more power than we know. We've allowed ourselves to be brainwashed by Trump's Regime to believe we're powerless. We have power in every single state. No Kings Day II will be Oct. 18. It'll be more successful than No Kings in June. This will be in every state, not just Democrat states. The Blackouts and Not Normal Tuesdays can be everywhere too. Hurt them in their pocketbooks. That's all they care about anyway. They have no real ideology other than self-enrichment. Keep protesting visibly and stop shopping at national chains and using credit cards during Blackouts and on Tuesdays. We'll save ourselves. Don't wait for anyone else to come to our rescue. They're just not coming.

A stroll down memory lane!

It makes me so happy to hear whenever people are taking actio, thanks for sharing all the blackout info!

I'm glad we are fighting on the same side, Elise!

I enjoy the prescriptive nature of these articles. They are empowering. I’ve used content more than a few times when calling my reps or writing to my governor. A lot of this is along the lines of soft secession and preparing for worst case. If we build structures to fight back this threat, we’re actually strengthening democracy. Maybe the last week is a turning point and more people are waking up, seeing that their voice makes a difference. I hope so. Thanks for doing these articles.

WGBNRI's avatar

I agree, but could we not use the term "turning point" for just a bit? I need that whole bunch out of my headspace. It's a great phrase and I'm super angry that they usurped it!🤬

OregonBoatingGuy's avatar

Funny, it definitely stuck in my throat as I wrote it.

Please, professional independent journalists, direct your work to those who are in the government of our States, our House, our Senate. Maybe, they don’t have time for research . But, I bet they would be happy to share your hard work on their networks. Giving you credit, I hope. Still, reaching others, who have not SubStack.

Super GREAT IDEA...PLEASE HELP!

Besides a general strike, the only lever we really have is blue state power. The sooner we start to defund Trump by not remitting federal income taxes, etc. and lay the ground work for secession the sooner we will be in a position to negotiate a fascism roll back or can just secede. The case is simple, the constitution thrives in blue states while it's been obliterated by Trump and maga at the federal level.

Elise Green's avatar

As I said above, we just had a general strike (a Blackout) but very few people knew about it or if they did, they didn't observe it. It was Sept. 16-20. Now start observing Not Normal Tuesdays every week (one strike day per week) and starting on Black Friday, we're doing another Blackout for another 5 days. I'm trying to get the word out.

karemm's avatar

I like the idea of a black Friday boycott. If 50501 and others who support the resistance would participate, it could be very successful. The Jimmy Kimmel boycott proves it.

Judith Sabalauskas's avatar

I will spread the word about a Black Friday Boycott. We need to follow the money supporting project 2025 and do our part to make our voices heard.

Janice Geller's avatar

Elise Green, How can we help get the word out on the Blackouts ?

Elise Green's avatar

Janice, thanks for asking. I just asked the person in charge of one of the Indivisible chapters I work with and I'm waiting to hear from her. I'll try to let you and others who are interested know more about spreading the word when I find out. Obviously, not too many people knew about our Blackout on Sept. 16-20. We need to do better. Do shop locally. Eat at locally owned restaurants. And wear a paper clip when you go out. It was what those in the Norwegian Resistance during WWII did. And participate in Not Normal Tuesdays Blackouts every week because nothing is normal. I'll try to find out more about getting the word out about the Blackout starting on Black Friday. However, if the government shuts down, the plan is that we all go on a general strike. This is being called by Indivisible, 50501, and some other national groups.

I just wanted to point out that defunding Trump is much more than just financial offense against him with a hint of BLM but he has illegally withheld congressionally approved billions from blue states as well as inflicting significant human and economic pain with his reign of terror - ICE, tariffs, healthcare, doge and his assault on the Constitution. All capped with the simple truth that any money we send Trump now will just enrich him and be used against us.

Miz Bee Cee's avatar

Perhaps T***p's withholding of congressionally approved funds is state justification for withholding specific amounts of federal taxes…

Laurie Leach's avatar

I am so glad you addressed this question. I have thought for some time that this scenario is quite likely. We are watching every piece of the infrastructure being put in place. The good news is that blue states have banded together recently to provide ongoing health services so perhaps ground work is being laid as you describe. I like Beverly’s idea of getting this in the hands of blue state governors.

Christopher Armitage's avatar

Agreed! This article covers some of the most effective tactics to get it in front of them and get these ideas taken seriously: https://open.substack.com/pub/cmarmitage/p/5-phone-calls-can-stop-american-fascism?r=64gnd1&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

Elise Green's avatar

Please help spread the word about the Blackouts (boycotts) and protesting visibly with groups of people that are organized. You can do this. Also don't forget about Not Normal Tuesdays every week. No national chains including restaurants, no credit card usage, no banking, as little driving as possible. Black Friday and that whole weekend are so important. One of the days is about tech stuff. Boycott that for sure! Don't boycott "shop locally" on any of the Blackouts. We want to encourage shopping at local merchants and restaurants, etc. If you need medical care or an Rx, don't feel guilty about going to a place like CVS or Walgreens during a Blackout. Your health comes first. We need you to be healthy to be effective in this important fight against fascism.

States need to step up and keep any party off the ballot if they push a candidate who breaks constitutional limits.

Benjamin's avatar

The feds would come right in and seat the candidates of their choosing if that happens.
