Normal governments strive to earn the trust of the people. Authoritarian governments, like under Trump, doesn't care about that. This is prove of it. All up to SCOTUS. If they can't find loopholes they'll create them.
We need a National reset. But such a thing is so broad, so deep in this case that it will be an extremely difficult thing to effect. It will require a cultural shift in government and politics as much as in society at large. I fear This is symbolic of rot of general integrity in the population at large (at worst) or apathy arising out of long term public distrust (at best).
Not “will create them”. They’ve already created them. Our government’s legal structures are defined as much by loopholes as by the clear intent of laws and regulations. It is truly shocking that the highest court in the land pays homage to these loopholes while the lower courts tend to respect the spirit of laws limiting corruption.
Perhaps a rhetorical question, but can today’s SC conservative majority lay claim to fairness and integrity while ignoring the actual text of our laws? Billionaire bribes and financial nepotism do not aid their case.
The second amendment is the root cause for the chronic distrust (mainly from the right) in the government. It led to badly regulated and or deregulated segments that cleared the road for corruption at all levels, both of society as well as within government. Allowing for a partisan SCOTUS is yet another not well thought through thing the founding fathers came up with. They couldnt or wouldn''t imagine the possibility that people belonging to the highest ranks in society/business and in politics would be as corrupt as the mafia.
The Roberts Court is a damaged Court. A real, enforceable anti-bribery law should be common sense—but don't expect Congress or your state representatives to rush to pass one. Why? Because it would require many elected officials to live on their salaries instead of accepting luxury vacations, expensive gifts, free travel, favors, gold bars, assistance with personal matters, and other benefits from wealthy donors and special interests.
Accountability shouldn't stop at the Supreme Court. The same ethical standards should apply to senators, representatives, governors, state legislators, and local politicians. Public office is a public trust—not a path to personal enrichment. If elected officials oppose stronger ethics laws, voters should ask themselves why. and vote them out.

I was watching the Legal AF channel on YouTube yesterday, and it was one of their other lawyer shows. I can't remember the girl's name, but she suggested we vote in a completely separate Supreme Court, with 13 justices to interpret and rule on the shadow docket. Since the Supreme Court is going rogue, thereby deeming themselves illegitimate, why don't we help them along...and bring the 3 other justices that are abiding by the rule of law?

Most Americans would recognize that any kind of gifting, regardless of timing, will naturally create warm feelings toward the giver, so trying to parse out the timing of the gift as the corrupt SC has done ignores basic human nature. Reciprocity is a strong human impulse that only an exceptional ability to intellectualize and ignore can overcome. I doubt our public officials at any level have this ability.

Looking at Roberts, Alito and Thomas we can see those rulings were made as much for their protection as politicians.
